Skilled for Success helps unemployed people who want to improve their basic skills so they can go into further learning and employment. There are three projects on offer:
All the projects are free of charge, and we may be able to help you with childcare and travel costs.

Transport Skills 2 Progress
Transport Skills 2 Progress is a six-week programme that has been specifically designed to help you build the skills, confidence and experience that you need to start your career in the bus industry. It works by combining training, skills development and the necessary background knowledge with coaching on how to get and keep jobs, a work placement and ongoing support.

New Opportunities
Under New Opportunities, a number of different organisations are working together to provide a range of training options.
- Learning Partnerships are offering learners the chance to take part in the innovative ‘New Opportunities’ experience including non-accredited modules in ICT and Budgeting Basics. New Opportunities is adapted to fit the needs of the learners and will generally take 3 days to complete. It includes activities around confidence building, breaking down barriers and personal effectiveness. Learning Partnerships also delivers a non-accredited programme for those wishing to improve their English skills as a non-English speaker, called ‘ESOL Engage’. - Leeds City Council Jobs and Skills publicises all provision through their extensive network of Job Shops and refer learners who meet designated eligibility criteria to the programmes offered through Skilled for Success. The Job Shops provide Information, Advice and Guidance support to gain relevant employability skills such as CV writing, interview skills and job search. They also deliver a non accredited course on Health & Social Care and Business Admin. For more information, contact Alice Winter on 0113 224 3555.
- Leeds College of Building delivers a 2-week taster session and a Level 1 course in Carpentry and Joinery; the programme includes Basic Skills and Health and Safety.
- Leeds City College (Thomas Danby Campus) delivers tailored learning in community locations. Courses include Getting Started in Childcare, Health & Social Care, ICT, Numeracy, Literacy and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). For more information, contact Anne Eveleigh on 0113 224 3120.
- Vera Media delivers Entry Level Skills for Life (including ICT) through media from their training base in Hillside. For more information, contact Al Garthwaite on 0113 387 6468.
- Solange Robinson Consultancy delivers accredited ESOL at Entry Level and a Preparation for Work qualification at Level 1 from their base on Roundhay Road. For more information, contact Solange Robinson on 0113 245 1830.
- St Luke’s Cares delivers accredited ICT at both Entry and Level 1 from Hit Base in Beeston. For more information, contact Tony Holmes on 0113 271 0766.
Stepping Stones
Stepping Stones is offering a wide range of different types of training at Entry Level and Level 1. Here are some of the topics you can choose from:

Skilled for Success is a Leeds City Council programme funded by the European Union, through the European Social Fund, and the Skills Funding Agency. The programme will run until the end of December 2010.
