Leeds Library and Information Service has created a book and a DVD to record the experiences of women working in Leeds during the Second World War.
We wanted to celebrate the role of local women who worked in factories during the war years. For many factories this was the first time they had employed women and the change had a lasting impact on the future role of women in the workplace. We invited women to share with us their pictures, their stories and their memories from that time.
These stories and images were gathered together in a book with an accompanying DVD. The book is available to download from this page. Copies of the book with the DVD can be borrowed from any library in Leeds.
We hope the book and DVD will be seen as a lasting testament to the achievements of these women and others who did similar work across the country. We also hope the stories told by these remarkable women will serve as a fitting reminder for future generations.
