Boardmaker software is installed in 25 libraries across Leeds. You can see the full list of libraries as well as lots more information about Boardmaker by downloading the booklet on this page.
Boardmaker in libraries contains over 11,000 images that can be used to create symbol-based materials. Every library with Boardmaker has a laminator to use with the software so parents and professionals can laminate their boards and symbols after printing.
If you would like to learn how to use Boardmaker you can book a session with a librarian at any library with the software. Just contact your chosen library. There is no charge for using Boardmaker in libraries and there is no charge for laminating your boards and symbols. Regular library charges apply for printing.
Autism and Asperger's advice sessions at Leeds Central Library
Leeds libraries are working with STARS (Specialist Teachers Autism Response Service) to run advice sessions at the Central Library. The STARS team are at every session to advise on issues relating to individual children and young people and their specific needs. Library staff will also be at each session helping you use Boardmaker to design and print visual resources. Download the flyer on this page for more information about the monthly advice sessions.

Makaton resources
To help children and families communicate we have bought six collections of Makaton resources. These collections include Something Special DVDs, core vocabulary books of signs and symbols as well as pocket books featuring some of the most frequently used signs and symbols. The resources are kept in six libraries but can be reserved to collect from any library in Leeds. Just follow the link on this page to the library catalogue. All Makaton resources are free to borrow but there is a charge for reserving items.
