Christkindelmarkt is one of the largest and most established German Christmas markets in the UK, with traditional wooden stalls, festive greenery, Christmas carousel rides and twinkling colourful lights all creating a unique continental style festive atmosphere in the heart of the city centre.
New Year's Eve celebrations
This New Year’s Eve join in the celebrations early with a variety of street entertainment including crazy characters, stilt walkers, marching bands and family fairgrounds rides on Briggate and the Headrow from 2pm. Make sure you don’t miss the spectacular aerial fireworks display at 5.30pm, illuminating the skies all across the city! Viewing area on The Headrow (between Albion Street and Vicar Lane).

Leeds International Pianoforte competition
The Leeds International Pianoforte Competition was founded by Marion Thorpe, Fanny Waterman and Geoffrey de Keyser in 1963. The 16th Leeds International Pianoforte Competition will be held between 26 August - 13 September 2009.
Rothwell 600 Festival
Rothwell celebrates the 600th anniversary of the granting of its Royal Charter in February 2008. The Rothwell art exhibition is unique for the town and launches the festivities. Other events lined up for the year include a schools’ triathlon, street banners, the biggest May Day and Carnival celebrations in memory, Carlton Show, a horticultural show, a major music concert in the Parish Church, a mass fun walk around Oulton Hall Park, an orienteering event for schools, community events around the traditional Rothwell area.
