Equalities Assembly

Equalities Assembly Conference 9th November 2011

This year’s Equalities Assembly Conference has been planned in partnership with the Equality Hub Representatives.  This year’s focus to be on Leeds city centre equality issues.

The conference will be chaired by James Rogers, Assistant Chief Executive of Policy, Planning and Improvement. There will be short speeches by the Hub Representatives who will be talking about the work their individual hubs have been concentrating on over the last 12 months. Guest speakers will be Martin Farrington (Director of City Development), Councillor Josie Jarosz and Martin Dean (Head of Leeds Initiative).

Round table discussions will be led by staff from the City Development directorate.  The discussions will focus on access issues based around traffic, community safety, green spaces, culture in the city and how to create a City For All Ages.

Community groups and Leeds City Council have come together to set up a new forum called the Equalities Assembly. The Equalities Assembly will make it easier for Leeds' diverse communities to engage with and influence the decisions the council makes.

The Equalities Assembly is a forum, made up of Equality Hubs, which helps ensure we engage with and involving the full range of citizens that live in Leeds in the decisions we makes.

Coordinated by our Equality Team it provides a way for us to understand local people's views, helping to improve the services and employment opportunities we offer.
