Leeds City Council has produced a guidance document providing fire safety principles for residential accommodation. This was produced in consultation with the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, other West Yorkshire local authorities and representatives from landlord groups. It is based on the national guidance document called ‘Housing – Fire Safety, Guidance on fire safety provisions for certain types of existing housing’ that was produced by LACORS and was published in July 2008. The Leeds document aims to provide guidance for the design of fire safety schemes for residential accommodation in all tenure groups, including owner-occupied, social housing providers as well as those in the private rented sector. This guidance replaces previous fire safety guidance issued by Leeds City Council.
Where there is doubt on the suitability of a fire safety scheme, then further advice can be sought from the council’s Housing Regulation Team or alternatively, West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Authority (“WYFRA”).
