As a carer it is important to look after your own health too and taking a break is crucial in reducing stress levels and preventing ill health. Not only you, but the person you look after will benefit from a break, which could come in form of just a couple of hours to yourself or a full day, to taking a longer break. The following specialise in providing culturally sensitive respite services.

Allied Healthcare provide a specialist scheme for carers from an ethnic minority community who require a care worker of a particular culture or religious background has been established. Tel 0113 223 7321

Leeds Shared Lives have an Asian development worker who visits people referred for the service for whom language is a problem and support them. They offer a number of short and long, at and away from home, by careworkers of a variety of ethnic backgrounds.

Respite breaks away from home can be planned in advance and the arrangements will be through a community care assessment by the social worker of the person you care for.
