Leeds Vision Consortium (LVC) comprises of Leeds Action for Blind People and the Wilberforce Trust. LVC is a powerful partnership delivering services for blind, dual sensory loss and partially sighted adults living in Leeds.
From Monday June 13th 2011, Leeds Vision Consortium (LVC) is responsible for providing a single service across Leeds. The new service supports adults who have a range of needs related to their vision loss:
- Adult who are registered Blind (severely sight Impaired)
- Adults who are registered partially sighted (sight impaired)
- Adults who are blind or partially sighted and not registered
- Adults who have dual sensory loss and
- Young people aged 17+ who are blind, partially sighted or have dual sensory loss that are in transition from children’s services.
LVC will provide the following services:
Independent Living Service – offers information, advice and support with day to day living, welfare rights, housing issues and managing personal budgets. Independent Living Officers will provide tailored support in all aspects of life after sight loss, enabling you to make informed choices and be in control of the way you live your life and maintain independence.
Employment Service – provides help developing skills, personal assessment, career advice, finding a job, starting up a new business or staying in employment when faced with sight loss.
Eye Clinic Liaison Officers (ECLO) – Works with the Eye Clinic in hospitals, liaises with Doctors and Adult Social Care (ASC) in providing information and advice for people who have been diagnosed with an eye condition. Specialist diagnosis of an eye condition can be hard to come to terms with, so the ECLO service is designed to offer immediate help. Experienced staff provides instant access to practical information.
Promoting Health and wellbeing – working to raise awareness of visual impairment and dual sensory needs, promoting eye health to groups and individuals.
Volunteer development – volunteers help to deliver services – supported by specialist staff.
Transitions Coordinator – Works with young people (mainly 17 – 25) in their transition from school to college, university employment or training as well as raise their self esteem, confidence and encourage independence and the development of physical skills in a supportive environment.
Assistive Technology Coordinators – offer advice and practical support to enable people wishing to use technology to communicate more effectively and to interact with others at home and in the workplace.
Community outreach service – delivers practical information and advice sessions from a range of locations around the city in addition to our city centre base.
Dual Sensory Loss Service – deliver specialised services for people who have both hearing and visual impairment (dual sensory loss) is provided by our highly trained and experienced team, which includes a guide communicator.
To ensure the right expertise is available to meet the needs of all current service users, Sense will work with the LVC to provide the dual sensory service.
