Leeds Shared Lives (formerly known as Family Placement) provide carers for adults who need a little extra help.
We do this by offering breaks to the person who looks after you, by matching you with a Shared Lives carer. Shared Lives carers can look after adults with a wide range of support needs, including older people, adults with dementia, or a learning, physical or sensory disability.
What are the different types of support offered?
Leeds Shared Lives offers different types of support that is flexible and based on your individual needs
- a short break that is overnight, a weekend or part of a week
- support during the day for a few hours
- night awake service, so that the person who looks after you can catch up with their sleep
- or longer periods of support
Breaks can take place in the home of the Shared Lives carer or at your own home, whichever you prefer. Leeds Shared Lives also offers emergency care and medium term care if people are unable to return to their families.
What are the benefits?
The person who cares for you can take a well deserved break, knowing that you are well supported and have
- chance to meet people from all walks of life and make new friends
- opportunity for new experiences
- possibility of learning new interests and skills
- support for more independence
- a change of scenery in a friendly environment
- support with physical, social, emotional and cultural needs
- help with personal care if needed
