Our policy relates to litter which has been dropped or thrown down by someone. This includes paper, chewing gum, cans, bottles, food and drink containers, plastic, left over food and cigarette ends.
Objective of the policy
We want to see an improvement in the visual street environment by reducing the amount of litter thrown on the street.
'Looking after the environment' is one of the five key aims in the Council Plan. The policy contributes to this aim.
Application of the enforcement policy
Our policy comes from the Environmental Protection Act 1990. We will take legal action when someone is caught dropping litter. We will fine them using a fixed penalty notice.
