Gully cleansing

The gully service is responsible for the cleansing and unblocking of kerbside gullies within the Leeds City Council area on adopted highways.

We have about 250,000 gullies which are cleaned on an eight month rota. In areas that are at higher risk of flooding, gullies are cleared more often. The service will respond to floods caused by blocked gullies.

Gullies on private roads are the responsibility of the land owner who should hire a contractor to clear them out. The contractor should have a Waste Transfer Licence to make sure they can legally dispose of the waste. Leeds City Council can do this for landowners but we will charge.

We can retrieve personal items which have been dropped down a gully, but we will need to make a charge of £78.22 plus VAT.

To report a blocked gully please email gully cleansing team, alternatively you can call us on 0113 2224406.
