Leeds City Council has worked in partnership with Otley Town Council to produce an Otley Good Green Guide.
The Good Green Guide lists a number of simple steps that enable you to reduce your carbon footprint and contribute to the protection of the environment. Examples include information on the council's kerbside recycling service, the freecycle group and the council's real nappy scheme.
There are lots of opportunities for you to reduce the amount of waste you generate, reuse your household waste and recycle. Examples include:
-
hiring something rather than purchasing it
-
repairing your electrical appliances, computer or watch
-
donating unwanted books, music, bric-a-brac and clothing to local charity shops
-
recycling cans, empty aerosols, card, paper and plastic bottles and bags in your green bin/bag
-
take glass to a bottle bank
-
we accept a wide range of materials at Household Waste Sorting Sites. These include aluminium foil, batteries (car and domestic), electrical goods, garden waste, ink cartridges, mobile phones, oil (engine or vegetable), stamps, tyres and wood.
The street plan also identifies local facilities including charity, hire and repair shops and identifies where the recycling facilities are in Otley. Copies have been distributed to all the town's residents with the Otley Matters newsletter. Additional copies will be distributed through local retail outlets and other facilities in Otley in the near future.
