New recycling collection trial

Households in the Rothwell area of the city are taking part in a new recycling collection trial.  The trial aims to make it easier to recycle your waste and reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill.  The trial started in February 2010 and continues for six months.

The new trial includes

  • A weekly collection of food waste
  • Fortnightly collections of paper, card, cans and plastic in your green bin/bag
  • Fortnightly collection of garden waste in your brown bin until November and monthly December and January (if your property has one)
  • Fortnightly collection of your black general waste bin/bag

How the trial will work
If you live in Rothwell you will continue to receive a weekly collection of waste. We will juscollect different types of waste on different weeks and in separate containers or bins.

Week 1 Food waste bin and black general waste bin/bag

Week 2 Food waste bin, green recycling bin/bag and brown garden waste bin.

How to use the food waste bins

Before the new service began residents in Rothwell were given two food waste containers. A small kitchen caddy for inside the house and a larger food waste bin for outside.  We also provided a supply of compostable cornstarch liners for use with the kitchen caddy.

You will need to use the kitchen caddy to put food waste in each day. You should take this out when it is getting full and place it in your outside food waste bin for collection. You must put out the outside bin for collection every week on the collection day, with your other bins.

You can dispose of the following in the food waste bin
