Pandemic flu

Flu Virus
Flu Virus
  • Pandemic flu is a type of influenza that occurs every few decades and which spreads widely and rapidly around the world by human-to-human transmission.
  • Health experts believe that another pandemic is inevitable but no one knows for certain when it might happen. However, when it does appear, it’s likely that up to quarter of the population could fall ill over the course of the pandemic.
  • As with all levels of government, we take the possibility of a flu pandemic very seriously and have made sure our staff will be able to manage the extra demands that will be placed on them and to safeguard the provision of key essential services during a pandemic.
  • We also work with the NHS, emergency services and other responder organisations in planning a coordinated multi-agency response to a flu pandemic across Leeds.
  • All organisations are urged to prepare their own business continuity plans to enable them to maintain their essential services and resources. These plans should address pandemic flu as well as a range of other potentially disruptive challenges.
