Business continuity is a tool to identify what parts of a organisation's activities and resources are essential. It helps plan how a business will continue to operate in the event of an emergency.
By considering business continuity early, rather than when the emergency occurs organisations will be much more likely to recover essential operations and return to business as usual.
The Civil Contingencies Act (2004) provides our statutory duty underpinning business continuity management, as well as providing advice to businesses and the voluntary sector.
Business Continuity Management
The policy ensures business continuity management is embedded ensuring it can continue to deliver its key services to the community in the face of disruptions to their operation. These may arise due to loss of staff, a building, ICT infrastructure or failures by its external partners and contractors.
We have developed our own business continuity arrangements, which are set out in our corporate, directorate and service business continuity plans.
Business Continuity Promotion
We have been undertaking this role in a number of ways, in particular through the Leeds business continuity promotion network.
