Enquire is a national UK online reference service which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
As a real time reference service, 'Enquire' enables you to pose your enquiry to library staff over the internet and receive an immediate reply.
While chatting to you, staff will find the information you need on the internet and send it to your PC, so that it opens for you to view. An e-mail of the discussion will then be sent to you, so that you have a record of the web resources for future reference.
The service is available 24/7 - any time of day, and day of the week - even bank holidays!
Leeds is one of over 100 library authorities working in partnership to deliver 'Enquire' to people across the country. So, when you log on to the Service, it may be that a librarian in Aberdeen, Portsmouth or Bradford answers your query. Because the Service is available 24/7, librarians in the United States will pick up your enquiries 'out of hours' - on evenings, weekends or bank holidays.
"Enquire" is one of the three strands of the 'People's Network', the lottery-funded project offering free internet access in libraries throughout the UK. The other strands are: "Discover", a virtual museum; and "Read", which gives you the opportunity to share your opinions about books with readers all over the UK.
