Information for Electors with a Disability

We will try our best to ensure that all members of the community can exercise their full democratic rights.

We can supply information in large print, other languages, audio and Braille. We can also arrange for an interpreter, for those electors who's first language is not English, or for those who use British Sign Language.

We will try and make voting as easy as possible for everyone. We are committed to making all our polling stations easily accessible.

At the polling station you can also get help from the Presiding Officer. There are special aides available to enable visually impaired voters to mark the ballot papers without assistance and all voters with a disability can take a friend or relative to the polling station to vote for them.

If you don't want to go to the polling station to vote, please remember that all voters are entitled to vote by post (and proxy if they apply for each election), and voters with disabilities are also allowed to apply for a long term proxy. Application forms are available from this website. Link at the bottom of the page.

A guide about voting for people with learning disabilities is available to download from this page.

If you have any comments/suggestions about how we could improve our service to electors with a disability we would like to hear from you. Please contact us using the details given at the top right hand side of this page.
