Implementing Electronic Government Statement

Implementing Electronic Government
Implementing Electronic Government

Since 2001 the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has required every council to produce an annual IEG statement.  This statement demonstrates the progress made by the council towards a target of 100% electronic service delivery capability by 31 December 2005.

Every council in the UK has  submitted an IEG statement, which allows for comparison of performance between councils as a whole. Our statement IEG6 was submitted to the office of the Deputy Prime Minister on 10 April 2006, with the council reporting a headline figure of 99.5% e-enablement.

This indicates that the council has made excellent progress in electronically enabling its services, using national, standardised set of over 600 services to assess our progress in electronically enabling public facing services.

The IEG6 statement is a technical document which contains a self assessment and prediction of our progress on e-enablement.  Our focus is to ‘Close the Gap’ between the most disadvantaged communities and the rest of the city.  In order to close the gap, we recognise that improving access to our services is essential and our e-government activity is a vital tool in tackling social exclusion and making necessary efficiency/value for money savings.

Central Government has established seven national priorities, and the work that we are undertaking in Leeds reflects these broad themes, as well as complying with the specific requirements as set out in our IEG6 statement.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has established 54 specified national priority outcomes for Councils to achieve. These outcomes are divided into fourteen themes.

Included in our IEG6 statement are details of our current and forecasted IEG expenditure and efficiency savings made, re actual and forecast take up of electronically enabled services.  We have documented how we are using e-government investment to deliver local services and promote good practice in the transformation of service delivery council wide for our citizens.
