Leeds Community Safety

Community safety is an issue of national importance and - despite falling levels or recorded crime in recent years - it remains a primary concern for the people of Leeds. Crime affects the lives of everybody - residents, businesses, visitors, students, commuters and investors alike. Reducing crime and disorder is a key element in improving the quality of life for the citizens of Leeds.

Safer Leeds Partnership was formed under the provisions of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and our vision is for people to be able to live without fear for their own safety, or the safety of others. Our overall aim is to secure sustainable reductions in crime and disorder, and to address fear of crime in the Leeds district.

Amendments to the Crime and Disorder Act in 2006 abolished the duty on Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs) to produce an audit and strategy every three years and the Safer Leeds Partnership now has a duty to produce a Partnership Plan covering the period 1st April 2008 to 31st March 2011.  The Plan will set out for the next three years strategic outcomes and annual improvement priorities and activities.

The final strategic outcomes will be posted at the end of April 2008, together with a link to the new Safer Leeds Partnership Plan.

More details on Leeds Community Safety can be found on our new Partnership website, the address for which is www.saferleeds.org.uk
