The BIG tidy up campaign, run by Encams, is designed to encourage communities throughout England to get together and clean up their local area.
The tidy up is happening in September, although cleanups can take place at any time. The campaign is open to all, with groups, individuals and businesses working together to get their community clean.
Volunteers can register online and once registered they will be sent a tidy up kit containing posters, stickers, tabard bibs and badges. The kit will also contain a brochure with guidance on how to carry out a safe tidy up.
Leeds City Council are also encouraging anyone who takes part in the national campaign to submit an entry into the community and city pride awards. The community and city pride awards have been running for five years and were developed to recognise and celebrate public contribution to looking after the environment.
Deadline for submissions was 31 October 2008 and the awards event takes place in January 2009. For further information about the awards please follow the link to the community and city pride page.
