Reuse groups are voluntary initiatives set up to benefit the local community and the environment. They often provide free collection of good quality materials such as furniture, paint or wood that might otherwise have been sent to landfill. Donated goods are repaired and then sold at minimal cost or given to disadvantaged people. For more information visit the charities' webpage.
If you have large items of household waste which need removing from your property and cannot get to a household waste sorting site we have a bulky waste collection service available. To book a collection please telephone the environmental contact centre on 0113 2224406. Please be aware the waiting time from booking a bulky collection to getting the collection can be up to eight weeks.
If you have a brown bin we you should use this for garden waste. If you fill it we will not remove any excess as part of our bulky waste service. You can take this to one our household waste sorting sites.
The environmental contact centre is open Monday to Friday between 8am - 6pm. Please be aware Monday morning is the busiest time at the contact centre.
We can:
- collect up to four large items or ten bags at any one time
- only collect items that are manageable for two people to lift and carry
- only take listed items - see download
- collect items from 7am - 5pm
Residents should:
- leave items to be collected in a safe, convenient place on the property
- put items out for collection by no later than 7am on the day of collection
- contact us if you no longer need the service or if you change the list of items to be collected at least two days before collection
- unlock any gates
- move any vehicle that could cause obstruction
- keep pets in the house or on a lead on the day of collection
- ensure any fabric items are kept dry
- ensure bags are tied up and any loose wood is bundled together with no nails sticking out
