Compost bins
We have been working in partnership with Recycle Now and WRAP (the Waste and Resources Action Programme) to offer all Leeds residents subsidised home compost bins.  The offer is limited to a maximum of two bins per household.

You can choose from three home compost bins (all with free delivery)

  • Ecomax220 compost converter, £17
  • Ecomax 330 compost converter, £20.00
  • KOMP 250, £40.00

A solid wall seven litre kitchen caddy can also be purchased for £4.00 as an optional accessory at the time of ordering your compost bin. This offer is limited to only one caddy per order.

A range of kitchen caddies and liners can also be purchased from the accessories leaflet, which will be supplied to customers upon purchase of one of the home composting bins.

Alternatives

If you live in a flat or have a very small garden, you may be interested in a 'Green Cone' a wormery or a bokashi unit to recycle your kitchen waste. A wormery can be stored on a balcony, in a garage or shed or under your kitchen sink. A small wormery will transform the kitchen waste into a dark and rich compost and fertiliser for your plants. Fully grown worms can eat up to their own weight in cooked and uncooked food waste every day.

10,503 home composting bins have been sold so far.

Suitable soft organic wastes for a wormery include vegetable peelings, tea leaves, coffee grounds, stale bread and vacuum cleaner dust.

Alternatively, the 'Green Cone' and the bokashi unit dispose of kitchen waste such as fish, red meat and poultry, bread, fruit peelings, vegetable peelings, dairy produce, cooked food scraps, crushed egg shells and tea bags.
