Licensing premises for marriage and civil partnership ceremonies.

Many hotels and other venues in Leeds are licensed to hold marriage and civil partnership ceremonies. The Local Authority is able to approve premises which satisfy the licensing criteria. This page contains information on how to apply to have a premises approved.

The premises must be available to the public and must have no religious connection.  Follow the link on this page to a list of premises which are already approved venues.

You can download an application pack from this page. We advise you to read all the files before you prepare your application. The files labelled Annex B, C, and D are copies of items which will be attached as annexes to your licence if your application is successful. There will also be an Annex A attached to your licence which will be a copy of the plan submitted with your application.

Please send your application and the appropriate fee to Leeds City Council's Entertainment Licensing Section. You must also include five sets of plans showing the areas you wish to licence. You will also need to arrange for details of the application to be advertised in a local newspaper. We will also need written confirmation from the planning authority that the venue does not need planning permission to be used for marriage and civil partnership ceremonies.

Please make cheques payable to 'Leeds City Council' (Your fee will not be returned if your application is unsuccessful)
