Equality standard

The Equality Standard has been developed as a tool to enable local authorities to mainstream age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion and belief into council policy and practice at all levels.

The Equality Standard for local government was launched in 2001 and is now adopted by 90% of all local authorities.

Leeds City Council has achieved level 3 of the Equality Standard and aims to achieve level 4 by December 2008.
