Cemeteries and crematoria
The council maintains three crematoria and 22 cemeteries in Leeds. These are

Closed churchyards
We look after 22 closed churchyards. You can see a list of these by opening the document Closed churchyards attached to this page. The registers for closed churchyards should be available by contacting the minister of the church concerned or if church is closed you can find the information on the West Yorkshire Archive Service website by following the link from this page.

Can you help me find a grave or a place where ashes have been scattered?
Yes, if you know the name and date of death of the deceased person, we can help you find their grave or where their ashes have been scattered.
Can I get a head stone or memorial for ashes that have been scattered?
You can have a memorial where ashes have been scattered. Please contact us for more information or advice.
Can I tend a grave in a council-maintained cemetery myself?
We look after the general up-keep of the cemeteries and churchyards in our cemeteries. This includes things like grass cutting and path maintenance. You may look after to individual graves, but certain things are not allowed - for example placing kerbs around the grave or adding stone/wood chipping. Please contact us for advice if you are unsure about anything.
