Hyde Park and Woodhouse Designated Public Places Order

A Designated Public Places Order (DPPO) has been proposed at Woodhouse Moor and the surrounding Hyde Park area (under section 13 of the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001).

The DPPO provides authority to the Police to confiscate alcohol that is being consumed outdoors or that is thought likely to be consumed (unopened bottles / cans).  Failure to comply with a Police request could lead to a fine or arrest.

The proposed area comprises all public highways, streets, byways and other public places within Hyde Park and Woodhouse.  The map posted on this page defines the exact location covered by the DPPO.

The order will not apply, however, to pubs or other venues (or their immediate exterior) with a premises licence or club premises certificate granted by the Licensing Authority.  Nor will it apply where a temporary event notice authorises use of the premises for the supply of alcohol during the authorised times and for 30 minutes afterwards.  Nor will it apply to outside areas covered by a street café licence.

Copies of the proposals are available for public viewing at Headingley Library, Little London Community Centre and Woodhouse Community Centre.

Anyone wishing to respond to the proposals should do so no later than 5 December 2008.  Please contact:
