Financial Inclusion - Research 2010

The 2004 research

A number of areas which were within the most deprived wards of Leeds were the subject of a research study undertaken in 2004. The study sought to understand the nature and extent of financial exclusion.

The February 2010 research

This research is a repeat of a study undertaken in 2004  and provides a stark picture of the impacts of the recession, brought about by the banking crisis, on families in Leeds.

In addition to the direct repeat survey, an additional survey of less deprived areas was undertaken in order to identify if there had been any demographic changes in the existence of financial exclusion.

This research:

  • Compares the results from the 2004 and 2010 surveys.
  • It also contains an extensive discussion of the changes in financial inclusion policy and financial exclusion nationally for the same period.
  • It will hopefully aid policy makers and practitioners beyond Leeds to understand the changing nature of financial exclusion.

The report and researcher’s presentation is available to download on this page.
