Neighbourhoods in the East Leeds Regeneration area have significantly high levels of unemployment. A recently reviewed employment strategy sets out to raise residents' aspirations and skills, to improve work and training opportunities locally and to engage more effectively with employers.
The strategy prioritises projects aimed at your people, especially those not in employment, education or training; and at adults, especially those affected by long term disability or illness; and at families where there may be complex and generational barriers to employment.
Key projects include:
- Linking residents to job opportunities in the Aire Valley and Leeds city centre.
- Supporting businesses with workforce planning
- Developing skills in the construction industry linked to housing development in the area.
- Provide access to jobshop facilities across the area
Our sharing the success programme is encouraging enterprise. Shine in Harehills provides space and support for local businesses.
Rise in Seacroft provides space for construction skills training, and is now managed by Leeds College of Building working closely with local schools.

4 Families - mainstreaming a successful model
The 4 Families pilot project set up to reduce unemployment and tackle the embedded culture of worklessness in some neighbourhoods within EASEL, has been successfully completed.
Lessons learnt from its evaluation have guided the design of a new jobs and skills outreach programme taking off in Lincoln Green.
