Louisville is one of Leeds’ most recent partners. Formed following a partnership between the Royal Armouries and the Frazier Historical Arms Museum, the relationship has grown to include schools, Chambers of Commerce, universities and cultural groups.
Global citizens
Roundhay School and Technology College became the first school in Leeds to make a link with a school in Louisville during 2007.
Louisville art exhibition
Local artist Clare Webster visited Louisville in October 2008 to attend the prestigious St James Court Art show. She made several sales and some good business contacts.
Ryder Cup
Members of Moortown golf club represented Leeds at the Ryder cup in 2008. They delivered their replica of the Ladies Ryder Cup and attended the official opening of its display at the Louisville visitor centre. They also met the President of the Greater Louisville Sports Commission, visited the Muhammad Ali Centre and Frazier International Museum which presents America’s history and also took the opportunity to watch some golf.
More recent activities have included a Jazz exchange between musicians at the Leeds College of Music and counterparts in Louisville and involvement in the Leeds anti-slavery commemoration events of December 2009.
