Welfare rights unit

We offer a free, confidential and impartial welfare rights service via the telephone, advice surgeries or home visits. We provide

  • information and advice on a whole range of welfare benefits and appropriate services and schemes
  • benefit checks and calculations to assess the correct level of benefit entitlements
  • advice on winter fuel payments and keeping warm in winter
  • help to fill in forms
  • advice and support with appeals
  • talks and displays.

We hold advice surgeries at our One Stop Centres around the city. You can download details of times and locations as part of the Welfare Rights leaflet which is available from this page. You will need to make an appointment for these surgeries - call in at your local One Stop Centre, contact us on 0113 376 0452, or email us from the link on this page.

You can also get information about individual benefits and tax credits from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) or HM Revenue and Customs using the weblinks on this page.
